Letter to Pete Isakson about Sports Passes

Mr. Isakson,

I am a part time student and full time worker. I am working on a degree in Management Information Systems. Where I have trouble is with my status as a "student". I am a student to the point where I can get a membership at the Student Rec Center. I am a student to the point where I am charged the transit fee. However, I am not "enough" of a student to purchase a sports pass.

I have been attended WSU both as a full time and part time student. I have enjoyed rooting on the Cougar Football and Basketball teams through both thick and thin. I was in the stands in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000; all the years when the Cougs were losing more games than winning. I was also there in 1992, 1994, 1997, 2001, and 2002. I am not a fair weather Cougar fan. I am there rain or shine, snow or bitter cold. I don't leave until I sing the fight song with the team at the end of the game.

I have always looked forward to Cougar Football Saturday. I don't think there is any question about my loyalties to the Cougars. Where there is question is why am I not "enough" of a student to participate in the sports pass program? I don't think I am less of a fan because I am not taking as many credits as the next guy. Times are good right now and the Cougars don't need to worry about the fan base. The fans are showing up. But, when the times are bad and the fair-weather-fan base leaves, the Cougars are going to look for their true fans to still be in the stands.

I would like to be in the stands. I would like to be with my fellow classmates in the stands rooting on the Cougars.

Can you help me change the rules and allow those of us, like myself, to participate in the student tradition of athletics?

Thank you,

Scotty Anderson
