Playing semi-pro football.

My only plans for the day were to go to football practice and clean my house. I didn't get either of those done. At about nine thirty in the morning a page came out of the Colfax Fire airwaves asking for one additional crew member to respond to the station for a fire South of Tekoa. I called Tim at the fire station and told him I would be en route. I got up and quickly got dressed and headed down. I got into the ladder truck and we headed off going code three to the scene of a grain elevator fire. We got about half way there and they called and said we could cancel since the structure we were going to help protect was now fully involved. So we turned around. Following that they wanted some foam. We went up in Carl's truck.

We got on scene and the flames were shooting out of the entire roof section of the elevator. The building was about one hundred feet tall. We set up the foam and started to spray the foam and then one of the hosed sprang a leak. We changed out that hose only to have the one we just put on spring a leak. So I spent the rest of the time there taking pictures of the fire and the progress of the building burning down. I have some nice shots.

We left a little after one pm. I headed out to Moscow to try to make it to football practice. I am on a team called the Palouse Thunder. It is a new Semi-pro team that will be in a league with about six other teams from all over Eastern Washington. I got there in time to miss the whole thing, but I was told to go to the Kibbie Dome and get fitted for a helmet and shoulder pads. I got those paid for. I also picked up a pair of turf cleats and regular cleats for twenty dollars each. It was a good deal. I got lineman gloves and a few other items for football. Then I went to Colfax. I got the pictures printed from the fire and took them to the fire station. I still had not worked on my house. At about five thirty I got a call from John asking where I was. I told him Colfax. Then I found out we were on call and I had to get to Pullman. So, I did not get any cleaning done.

I went to the fire station and watched TV for a while. We got one call. It was an alpha response for a guy who was having back spasms. We transported him. That was it for calls. It started to snow. We got about three inches of snow total. John and I stayed and the station playing cards until about midnight then I went to the office to go to sleep.
