Six characters could take twenty-eight days.

Due to sleeping in yesterday I had to work a full ten hours today. That was not a big deal because I did not have a lot of to do this evening. I have football tomorrow morning so I actually have to get to bed sort of early. The day was pretty normal. I was trying to find some marine frequencies for the Lower Granite Dam. I found a few phone numbers to call. I actually got a hold of someone who helped me. That was good.

This week's weather has been getting me excited about getting out on the river! It will be so nice to go boating and hanging out on the water. This will be the third year that I have a boat. Two years ago I traded a Seventy-Five Corvette for a boat and trailer. I loved my Corvette. The boat has been awesome. Getting on the river and playing. I have had a ton of fun. I can hang out with more friends. The car was fun, but there was always risk of getting a speeding ticket.

Anyhow, after work was over I went to Colfax Fire. I chatted with Carl to see if he could program my radio with the new marine frequencies. He asked if he could do it another night. I told him that would be no problem at all. Then I headed out to the customer's house for the computer work. The customer has a MS Money program. It was protected with a passport password. For some reason she cannot login anymore. It says it is getting the wrong password. So, I worked on a couple things for a while. With no luck. So, I took the MS Money file and I was going to use a program that the company has that can break passwords. We need to use the brute force method and that will take a while to do. The program is hitting about forty-seven thousand passwords a second, and at that rate it will take about twenty-eight days just to try all the possible combinations for six characters. That is why people say to use at least six characters. Many times if you use symbols, numbers, and alphabetic characters and you have eight or more characters it could take months using a brute force attack. Therefore changing your password every month or so, someone trying to hack your password may never get it.

After I got the computer working on the brute force attack I watched Third Watch. I am getting back into the show. For a while I was not able to watch it so I am lost on a few things, but I am learning. I went home after the show and played with Amber for a few hours before retiring to bed.
