First Coroner's Case

Sunday morning I had to work in the jail. That is why I left early from playing poker the Friday night. The jail was highly uneventful. When I got off I stopped by the fire station and chatted some with Carl. Then I went to Ken's house to get the fencing to put up in the back yard for Amber. Then I was at home and I was amazed. It was early and I did not have any place to be.

So, I thought about what I could do around the house. I decided to get the washer up and running. I put on the hoses which were leaking before and I used some pliers to help tighten them. This time they were not leaking. I got a load of laundry in the washer. I called Thomas to see if he wanted to walk the dogs. He did. So, I told him I was going to run downtown and get some dinner. I would call him up and we would go. I got some chick breasts and then went home. I was cooking the chicken breasts and took Amber outside to go potty. While out there the phone rang. It was Whitcom. They said that Patty was on her way to a coroner's call and wanted to see if I was available to help.

So, I went into the house and chowed down on the chicken breast pieces dipped in a bbq-ranch sauce. I was a little worried that it would be a gross scene and the chicken chunks would cause me grief. That was not to be the case, however. I got dressed in nicer clothes, called Thomas to cancel the dog trip, then I was off to Pullman. It was a young lady who had died. I did well on the scene. It was great how the job was so much detective work. A lot more than people would think.

When I tell someone I am a deputy coroner, they are all shocked and wonder why I want to look at dead people. Yes I deal with dead people, however I am there to discover how and why they died. In this case there were detective skills that had to be practiced to be able to figure this one out.
